Linda
Linda first arrived at GSRM in July of 2005. She
says at that time she was lost, confused, and scared… she didn’t
want to live anymore.
Many of our clients have fought so many obstacles in
life, that they have just lost hope. The staff at Good Samaritan started
talking with Linda and helped her begin to see the opportunities before
her and more importantly, the “real hope”.
It wasn’t long before Linda began receiving unemployment
benefits and began the process to receive disability benefits.
Against staff advice, Linda left the shelter prematurely
before her case plan was complete. She came back for a short stay
in June 2006, but after a brief stay, Linda again went back to the
difficult life she knew.
Linda found herself again needing a place to stay and
returned to open arms at Good Samaritan in March 2007. After a brief
stay Linda was able to complete what the Lord started three years
ago. She found an apartment where she could start a life of self-sufficiency.
Linda explained that she never thought she would be able
to make it on her own. “I finally get the change and am scared
but I talk to God and I think I’ll be ok,” reflected Linda.
When asked about her experience at GSRM Linda responded,
“This place is more than a shelter for me. It is a place where
people really do care about others and they try so hard to help. The
best part about being here is the people that work here. Each one
of them is a friend, someone you can talk to. They do listen and they
give great advice. I’ve learned the most important person I
can talk to now is God.” |
