LISTEN ONLINE: Michael’s story
Michael was hurting in a major way when he came to the mission. His habits were costing him dearly leading to hopelessness, homelessness, and despair. “It was very frightening at first, you know. Then, of course you don’t want to ask for help and I asked the Good Samaritan for help and their helping me now. They have very valuable resources, not only for single, but for us, you know, people with children, and wives and their lives have been destroyed. The mission lift them people up and point them in the right direction.”
Michael came to the Good Samaritan Rescue Mission in Bay City. Much like City Rescue Mission in Saginaw, the doors of the mission are open for those who need a place to go for healing, safety, rebuilding, and getting their lives pointing in the right direction. “It rescues you from addiction, alcohol, abuse, domestic violence. Just being alone, you know, a lot of people are just alone. It’s more than just homeless, it’s something more inside. I’m starting to heal now, changing my spirit.”
The word rescue is a powerful one, helping save someone from dyer trouble has many layers. At the mission, your generous support helps reach out to men like Michael and offer healing and hope for the days ahead. “Well, they offer a lot of resources here that are very valuable for a person in my situation and they point you in the right direction and they’re just very nice people and God-loving people that like to help people and they don’t judge people like most people would. I think without this mission in this community there would be a lot of hurt people right now and it’s very valuable for this community. There’s a lot of low income in Bay City and the homeless rate is outstanding here, there’s still people sleeping outside that I see.”
