The Faces of the People We Serve
Most often, the need for emergency shelter is what brings someone through our doors – and the reasons are wide-ranging. At Good Samaritan Rescue Mission, counselors assess the services needed for each guest with a goal of not only meeting the immediate need for shelter, but then providing tools that will allow the guest to pursue permanent housing on their own. Beyond these initial provisions, qualifying guests are welcome to opt into our Moving Forward Employment Readiness Program.
Our facility is equipped to house men, veterans, and women/children. We are diligent at providing a safe and clean environment for each guest, being confident that this will aide them in transitioning into independence.
Three well-balanced, nutritious meals are served daily. Food Baskets are also available for the low-income individual.
When a guest arrives at our shelter, they often come with very few personal belongings. In some cases, they have only the clothes on their backs! So upon arrival, each guest meets with a case manager who assesses their particular needs. A package is assembled from the clothing donations brought to Good Samaritan that meets this guest’s exact needs. If the guest opts to begin our Moving Forward Employment Readiness Program and has a job interview scheduled, we also get them “dressed for success” for their job interview.
Surveillance cameras are placed throughout our facility allowing us to monitor when people are coming and going. All staff and volunteers undergo an application process and background check helping to ensure we surround our guests only with trustworthy people. Security locks throughout our facility separate men’s and women’s/children housing.
Between our custodial staff and the duties completed by our guests, we maintain a comfortable, clean, and home-like environment that includes laundry facilities.
Private bathrooms/showers are available. Bedrooms are dormitory-style.
Homeless veterans work with a VA Representative to qualify for emergency shelter/temporary housing at Good Samaritan Rescue Mission. When they become our guests, we are pleased to provide veterans with the same quality services offered to all our guests: food, emergency shelter, transportation to appointments, and need-based supportive services for life skills and employment readiness.
