| My name is Stacy Farquharson and I am a volunteer at GSRM.
My involvement with the mission began through the women’s
group at my church, long before the mission opened. I myself was
homeless at the time, fortunately I was taken in by a member of
my church.
I was also very ill and not able to do much. Being a Christian
and having a servant’s heart I contacted the mission to see
if there was anything I could do to help. Chris Overley, volunteer
director was very gracious, even after I had told him of all my
health problems and my diminished capacity.
Chris gave me a job to do! I was to answer phones and answer the
door. I could do that!
I volunteered for a few months and became very, very ill again.
I had to stop volunteering. I was crushed. Two months went by and
after many, many prayers I was able to return to the mission.
I volunteer on Tuesdays. The 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month
are food giveaway days. I love Tuesdays, I love the people.
Last fall Chris asked me to help him coordinate Chapel Services
for our residents. I was nervous at first but felt very honored
that Chris would trust me to serve the mission in this capacity.
God has blessed me greatly through Good Samaritan Rescue Mission.
By the grace of God my health has improved, I love what I do at
the mission, I have made many, many new friends, I am able to work
under the most awesome and kind supervisor, Chris. And, I have the
best boss in the world, Jesus Christ, my lord and savior!
